Evaluation, monitoring and adjustment as well as further development of the German National Climate Initiative (NKI)

The Federal Environment Ministry's National Climate Initiative (NCI) contributes to the successful transformation of the energy system and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The existing potential for emissions reductions is tapped into in a cost-effective way and innovative programmes and projects for climate action are promoted. The NCI supports effective climate action measures through various programmes and projects in municipalities, in industry, for consumers and in schools and educational facilities. The projects range from energy-awareness raising and climate-friendly behaviour, the use of efficient technologies and renewable energy, to measures relating to aspects of mobility. They include labelling, information activities, campaigns etc. The focus of this project is to evaluate the activities funded within the NCI with respect to their emissions mitigation impact, imitation effect, model character, economic and employment effects, regional coverage and more. The project further includes designing new projects and activities, adjusting and improving existing ones and providing support to the German government in further developing the NCI.
