Energy and climate protection projections 2035/2050 - Projections on national and European energy and climate targets and on effects of individual measures and programmes of measures

In this project, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is supported with well-founded projections and accompanying scientific analyses on the impact of measures and programmes of measures.

In the project, the achievement of the national and European climate policy targets 2030 as well as the annual sectoral targets according to the Federal Climate Change Act and the EU Effort Sharing Regulation with existing measures are evaluated annually. It is also analysed to what extent additional measures would be required and how such measures would be evaluated in terms of their impact.

To this end, projections are made of the future development of the energy system up to the year 2035, as well as an outlook for the year 2050 and the achievement of greenhouse gas neutrality. This includes an analysis of renewable energy targets in the electricity, heat and transport sectors, energy efficiency improvements and other energy policy targets.

Moreover, individual proposals that have already been presented by the EU Commission in the context of the European Green Deal or are presented during the project period are examined. In particular, this concerns questions of the implementation of the EU‘s climate policy target increase of to 50 to 55% emissions reduction in 2030 compared to 1990.
