Techno-economic assessment (TEA) of renewables-based hydrogen in Pakistan
The research suggests that Pakistan has significant potential to utilise its renewable energy resources for hydrogen development in long-term energy planning. A more proactive approach to bilateral engagement and transregional collaboration is imperative to effectively position Pakistan within emerging international hydrogen development frameworks. The research also provides a comparative analysis based on the PTX Business Opportunity Analyzer (BOA) v3.0.1 by adding Pakistan within its supply country database and comparing it with other resource-rich developing countries.
Without sustained institutional support and carefully crafted policy frameworks capable of addressing Pakistan's persistent politico-economic challenges, the prospects for hydrogen market development will remain constrained by deep-seated investment uncertainties. Key areas for intervention in the research mainly include the facilitation of business operations, thorough considerations of financial mechanisms, establishment of transparent regulatory and legal frameworks, and transparency of institutional arrangements. Overall, an overarching analysis of technology, economics, policy and business is carried out to support the formulation of hydrogen strategy.
