This webinar will gather together the Cool Heating Coalition membership, policymakers, aligned organisations, industry representatives and the media to consider the outlook and options for heating and cooling decarbonisation by 2040, based on the Öko-Institut’s assessment of the current EU policy framework.

Heating and cooling makes up almost half of the EU’s final energy consumption and presents an energy security challenge due to the sector’s high dependency on imported fossil fuels. Traditional heating and cooling methods, predominantly based on fossil fuel combustion, contribute to environmental degradation, pose a significant health threat and perpetuate energy poverty. Decarbonised and renewable energy-based heating and cooling by 2040 is therefore essential for our security, health, and climate targets.

While the Green Deal and the Fit for 55 package undoubtedly mark significant progress towards climate neutrality, it is evident that their provisions fall short of full decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector. Join us for an examination of the provisions for heating and cooling within the legislations comprising the Green Deal, and an analysis of the remaining gaps towards full decarbonisation of the sector by 2040/2050.
