The Carbon Credit Environmental Integrity (CENVI) Model

The document provides a description of the Carbon Credit Environmental Integrity (CENVI) Model. The CENVI model will combine data on issued (or planned to be issued) carbon credits with an assessment of the integrity of these carbon credits. This enables the assessment of different carbon credit portfolios. Moreover, the report presents the results of the environmental integrity assessment of the 13 mitigation activity types that have been assessed so far, as well as summarising the key factors that influence the outcomes of the assessments. Results show that the majority of estimated annual emission reductions and removals likely have very high environmental integrity risks, stemming -to varying degrees- from issues regarding additionality, the quantification of emission reductions or removals, permanence, and double issuance.
