Internalisation of the external environmental costs of food

The overall objectives of this project are to analyse existing approaches for the internalisation of external environmental costs in food and to examine their adaptability and feasibility, as well as to develop an implementation path for the recommended approaches.

Based on this, the consequences of a possible implementation of the selected four to five instruments for the internalisation of environmental externalities will be estimated. This assessment is carried out from the perspective of a multidimensional approach. Both direct and indirect consequences and effects are taken into account. The consideration includes both the intended changes in purchasing and consumption behaviour as well as socio-economic and legal implications. For one or two particularly promising instrument scenarios, concrete approaches for implementation will be developed and discussed, and a political roadmap will be elaborated.
