Implementation and monitoring of the "Circular EURO 2024" project

On the one hand, the project objective is to raise awareness among various stakeholders for the avoidance and separate collection of waste as well as resource savings, with a focus on visitors to the EURO 2024 events (especially in stadiums and fan zones) and the participants of the UEFA EURO 2024 Youth Congress, in a broader sense also the organizers (EURO 2024 GmbH, stadiums, host cities) as well as amateur sports and all persons who are reached by the event via the TV broadcast. This is to be achieved, among other things, through an accompanying video campaign on the topic of circular economy and resource conservation and through workshops as building blocks of the Youth Congress.

On the other hand, concrete savings are to be achieved at EURO 2024, both in terms of waste generation and resource use. For this purpose, a comprehensive implementation concept is to be developed that has a high level of ambition and serves as a role model. Specifically, EURO 2024 is to be supported in waste avoidance, separate waste collection and recycling, and resource savings in the area of temporary structures. An important building block throughout the project is the involvement, motivation and coordination with all relevant stakeholders. In order to be able to use the knowledge gained from the project and the environmentally friendly staging of EURO 2024 for future events and sport in general, sound scientific monitoring and evaluation of EURO 2024 is also a component of the project.
