Germany on the way to climate neutrality: What opportunities and risks result from digitisation

This study analyses the interactions between digitalisation and climate protection. Specifically, the following questions are addressed: What is the status of digitalisation in Germany? What are the most important development trends? What concrete opportunities and starting points does digitalisation offer for achieving ambitious climate protection goals in Germany? What energy consumption is associated with digitisation in Germany? What are the greenhouse gas emissions from digitisation? What are the main drivers and where is the potential for reduction? Which political instruments are necessary for a climate-neutral orientation of digitalisation? The study is based on an evaluation of current literature and statistical data.
