Data Economy in the Energy Sector

The project “Data Economy in the Energy Sector” develops a scientifically grounded and practice-oriented concept for the future use and exchange of data in the energy sector. It focuses on how European data regulations—particularly the Data Act and the Data Governance Act —together with technical and organizational solutions can help shape data flows in ways that support security of supply, decarbonization, affordability, as well as sovereignty and fairness in the energy system.

To this end, the project analyzes different models of data economies and develops concrete application models for the energy sector. These are examined through selected case studies, including municipal heat planning, charging infrastructure, energy communities, and data-driven assistance systems .

The project aims to derive robust policy and implementation recommendations for policymakers, public administration, businesses, and civil society , and to provide impulses for a responsible and efficient use of data within the energy system.
