Digitalisation – making it sustainable

[Translate to English:] Wie kann die Digitalisierung nachhaltig gestaltet werden?

From a sustainability perspective, digitalisation creates both opportunities and risks. Done right, it can help to save energy and resources – through a networked infrastructure and vehicle-sharing in the transport sector and through smart and efficient manufacturing processes in industry, for example. But digitalisation can also worsen environmental degradation and climate change – either through the use of technology itself or through increased consumption.

In this latest issue of eco@work, we take a closer look at digitalisation and how it can be sustainable. We start by looking at data regulation – for the question of who has access to data can have a considerable impact on the environment and policies aimed at protecting it. We also look at some of the Oeko-Institut’s projects that focus on energy and resource consumption resulting from digitalisation.
