Final storage - First steps

[Translate to English:] Jetzt online: die neue eco@work

The search for a final storage site for Germany’s high-level radioactive waste (HLW) officially began in September 2017. It is a highly complex challenge which will preoccupy our society for many generations to come. This latest issue of eco@work focuses on the first steps in this process and looks at the key stakeholders and also the conflicts and challenges that may arise. Another topic addressed in this January issue is the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and the question of what happens to all the waste: final storage, landfill or reuse? We also talk to Professor Klaus Töpfer, one of the Chairs of the National Support Body, who is working with other experts and citizens’ representatives on ensuring adequate public participation in the site selection process.
