Results-oriented financing of climate protection measures by means of purchasing carbon credits – Options for ensuring a long-term climate impact

How the gap can be closed to meet the climate protection commitments by 2020 is being discussed in several forums and initiatives. One promising option is the purchase and retirement of credits from project-based mechanisms (CDM, JI). This form of results-based funding does not directly finance the investments, but rather the pursued emission reductions. Specific proposals are developed for how programs for purchasing emission reduction credits can be designed to stimulate GHG reductions effectively and in the long term.
