Requirements for public participation in the site selection procedure of a final repository

As part of the project, requirements for a participation process and a concept for the participation of the public in the public in the repository process in Germany. The rapid and successful realisation of a repository for highly radioactive waste and the radioactive waste and the achievement of co-operation on an equal footing without lasting political and social upheaval in a future siting region require a comprehensive participation process.

The participation concept developed as part of the project is based on three pillars, which have their specific function and objectives within the process and which combine to form a comprehensive participation process:

  1. social anchoring of the necessity of final disposal through an effective publicity framework campaign;
  2. participation process at national level through the establishment of the Conceptual Partnership - KOP;
  3. regional participation process(es) through the establishment of one or more planning and development partnerships - PEP
