Preparation of a practical guidance on the development of an inventory of waste batteries containing lithium

Oeko-Institut develops a “Practical guidance on the development of an inventory of waste batteries containing lithium”.

The produced guidance document:

  • complements the methodological guidance for the compilation of lists of hazardous wastes and other wastes under the Basel Convention
  • is consistent with the relevant guidance developed under the Basel Convention
  • is based in its structure on the existing practical guides on the inventory of hazardous waste streams developed under the Basel Convention
  • provides the necessary guidance and tools (including questionnaires for data collection and formulae for calculating waste quantities) for compiling an inventory of lithium-containing waste batteries and preparing the necessary data for the purposes of national reporting under the Basel Convention
  • allows for a tiered approach that can be adapted to the resources, needs and capacities for data collection and generation of countries at different levels of development.
