Options for the continuation of GHG reductions within CDM and JI projects without other revenues

The supply of CER credits from CDM and JI projects will significantly exceed demand up to 2020. As a result, the prices for credits from CDM and JI projects have collapsed; they currently cover approx. 40 per cent of the transaction costs for the issuing of credits (UN fees, monitoring, certification). Within the scope of this project, options for further reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are shown and discussed. Moreover, “at risk” project types are identified, their potential for reducing GHG emissions is estimated, the transaction costs are calculated and the resulting options for reducing GHG emissions are evaluated.
