Options for addressing the non-Permanence of forest-based mitigation in international carbon crediting systems

·

This project identifies key issues and options for addressing non-permanence for forest-based mitigation in international carbon markets. This includes defining non-permanence and discussing why it matters for environmental integrity of international carbon crediting mechanisms. This is followed by a discussion of the main approaches for addressing non-permanence (e.g. risk assessments and mitigation measures, compensation for reversals, temporary crediting). The project also discusses how non-permanence could be addressed from a host country perspective and under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
