Legal basis for the site agreement in the site selection procedure

In the search for a repository for highly radioactive waste, the regional conferences are to be "involved in the final site agreement" in accordance with Section 10 (4) StandAG. The site agreement, its structure and possible contracting parties are not specified in more detail in the Act. This is where the research project commissioned by the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) comes in. In their legal opinion, the scientists analyze the possible objectives of the site agreement, who should be involved in drafting it and what legal character the site agreement should have. They complement their report with recommendations for the further structuring of the process.
