Follow-up on Spatial Planning and Development of Designation of Renewable Acceleration Areas (RAAs) in Selected EU Member States

The objective of this study is to provide an updated overview of selected EU MSs’ efforts towards implementing the Renweable Energy Directive (RED) III requirements, Article 15b. We are particularly interested in those requirements for which the implementation deadlines have either already expired (transposition of the RED into national law by July 2024) or which fall within the processing period of this project (coordinated mapping of areas for renewable energy deployment by 21 st May 2025). To do so, we will mainly build on our previous report "Overview of Renewable Energy Spatial Planning and Designation of Acceleration Areas in Selected EU Member States, published in May 2024. In this report we conducted an in-depth analysis of spatial planning practices in six selected EU MSs (Greece, Spain, Germany, Estonia, Poland, and Portugal) at a time directly after the RED was amended. In our current project loo k at further progress in the same six countries as well as four additional MSs: France, Italy, Croatia and Czech Republic.
