Expert services in connection with the site recommendation of BGZ Gesellschaft für Zwischenlagerung mbH for a Konrad central staging facility

On behalf of the BMU, the statement on the derivation of the site recommendation for the "Zentrales Bereitstellungslager Konrad" (ZBL) evaluates the approach selected by the BGZ, the selected requirements for site selection and evaluation, and the derivation of the site recommendation. The assessment is based exclusively on the contents of the BGZ document; own data surveys were not carried out within the scope of this statement.

Furthermore, an initial expert assessment of the potential suitability of the Würgassen site for the construction and operation of a ZBL was carried out. The basis of the assessment is the statement "Safety and logistical requirements for a staging facility for the Konrad repository" (own translation) of the Nuclear Waste Management Commission (ESK) dated 26.07.2018 . In this statement, an assessment is made of the extent to which the requirements of the ESK are fulfilled or appear to be fulfilled by the Würgassen site. In addition, supplementary information is provided that has arisen in the course of the review.
