Derivation and further development of ambitious standards for mattresses and furniture for the Blue Angel ecolabel and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR)

The project aims to systematically examine the existing product-specific requirements of the Blue Angel for mattresses and upholstered furniture and to develop proposals on how new developments in manufacturing, use, and circularity can be taken into account in a revision of the criteria. In addition, the project will develop tender recommendations for legally sound, environmentally friendly public procurement of mattresses and upholstered furniture. The findings are also intended to inform potential ecodesign criteria at the European level. In particular, the project will derive how aspects of extending product lifetimes and improving circularity for mattresses and upholstered furniture can be effectively designed and integrated into the European ecodesign process
