Climate impact of pyrolysis of waste plastic packaging in comparison with reuse and mechanical recycling scenario

The aim of this study is to assess the climate impact of a switch to pyrolysis as the main method of managing packaging waste and the implications for climate targets. The analysis includes energy and mass balance considerations to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of pyrolysis. The results of this potential scenario for pyrolysis are compared with a scenario that focuses on reuse and design for recycling.
