CIRCUTRAY - Innovative technologies for implementing a circular economy for PET trays in food packaging

The project aims to incorporate both mono-PET sorting and optimized mechanical processing while also utilizing physical recycling to recover additional PET recyclates from the multilayer PET sorting fraction and process residues. Moreover, these PET recyclates will be refined to produce films that are laminated with a migration barrier of virgin PET, resulting in safe and recyclable trays at the end of their service life. To assess the ecological impact of using virgin PET versus recycled PET, the Öko-Institut will conduct a thorough evaluation of products. For this purpose, a life cycle assessment is carried out in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
