Assessment of the periodic safety review of the uranium enrichment facility of the Urenco Deutschland GmbH in Gronau.

The operator of the uranium enrichment facility (URENCO Deutschland GmbH) is performing the periodic safety review as required by the atomic law (AtG).

On behalf of the responsible supervising authority the Oeko-Institute will assess the results of the safety review provided by the operator. The assessment allows to determine wether the the safety level is conform to the current state of the art in science and technology and whether improvement measures can be recommended. The evaluation is performed with regard to the nuclear and the chemotoxic risks during the normal operation and in the case of accidents as well as aspects of the nuclear waste management and the decommissioning of the facilities.
