Ambitious environmental standards, modern environmental law – a progressive environmental code!

The Öko-Institut, Deutsche Umwelthilfe and the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues work together on a joint project to provide constructive and critical support for the reform of environmental law (UGB) initiated by the German government. The three institutions see the environmental code planned by the federal government as a challenge, but also as an opportunity: For a more effective environmental law in Germany that is appropriate to current and future requirements. In doing so, the political significance of the proposed legislation must be brought into focus, so that a high standard of environmental law in Germany remains assured and the UGB guarantees real added value for people and the environment.

The project develops expert opinions on this issue and organizes workshops on topics such as integrated project approval, climate protection, public participation, and nature conservation and biodiversity. The planned draft bill of the Federal Environment Ministry is presented and discussed at a conference.
