Travelling to the Oeko-Institut’s Freiburg Head Office by Public Transport

If arriving by train at the main station ("Hauptbahnhof"), take the tram ("Stadtbahn"), line 3 towards "Vauban". All trams leave from the large bridge ("Stadtbahnbrücke")crossing the rail tracks at the southern end of the platforms at the main train station. After about 15 minutes, you will reach the stop named "Paula-Modersohn-Platz". Alight here, cross Merzhauser Straße and walk back in the direction from which the tram was coming for about 200 m. The Institute`s offices are located at number 173 Merzhauser Straße, in the front end of the "Sonnenschiff" building.

Travelling to the Institute`s Freiburg Office by Car

If travelling by car, take the A5 and leave the motorway at the Freiburg-Mitte exit. Take the B31a road towards Freiburg city centre (Stadtmitte). Leave the B31a at the Hauptbahnhof exit and keep to the left, following the signs for Merzhausen. Immediately after crossing Basler Straße, you will be on Merzhauser Straße. Follow this road for about 2 km. The Institute`s offices are located at number 173 Merzhauser Straße, in the front end of the "Sonnenschiff" building.

Travelling to the Oeko-Institut’s Darmstadt office by car

From the north or south (A5 from Frankfurt / Basel, Heidelberg, Stuttgart) (A67 from Mannheim / Wiesbaden): take the Darmstadt exit at the Darmstädter Kreuz intersection and follow the signs for the city centre (“Innenstadt”) on the B26 (Rheinstraße). Go straight ahead at two major traffic-light controlled junctions and at the third (Hindenburgstraße) do a U-turn. Return 200 metres along Rheinstraße towards the motorway and opposite the Berliner Allee tram stop turn right into the car park. Parking costs 2.50 euros. The Oeko-Institut office is on the 5th floor of the first office building complex.

Travelling to the Oeko-Institut’s Darmstadt office by train

If travelling by train, alight at Darmstadt main station (Hauptbahnhof); the Institute is about five minutes’ walk from here. Leave the station through the eastern entrance and go straight ahead along Mornewegstraße (past the Cinemaxx cinema). After approx. 150 metres turn right into a cul-de-sac following signs to Medi-Sport. Continue along the cul-de-sac and turn left at the third building entrance. The Oeko-Institut office is on the 5th floor of the last office building complex before the car park (no. 95).

Travelling to the Oeko-Institut’s Berlin office by public transport

By overground commuter train (“S-Bahn”)

Having arrived at Hauptbahnhof, take the S-Bahn (lines S3, S5, S7, S75) in the direction of Ostkreuz and alight at Jannowitzbrücke station. Take the exit at the end of the platform which lies south to the direction of travel (“Ausgang Brückenstraße”), and walk down towards the intersection with traffic lights. Cross the intersection twice, once straight ahead, then left. Go straight ahead along Straulauer Straße, passing under the S-Bahn railway bridge. Schicklerhaus is the large building on your right in the little cul-de-sac Schicklerstraße, which runs parallel to Stralauer Straße.

By the underground (“U-Bahn”)

The Berlin office can also be reached by taking the underground (U-Bahn) line U8. If you are coming from the north, take the U8 in the direction of Hermannstraße; if you are coming from the south, take the U8 in the direction of Wittenau. Alight at Jannowitzbrücke station, taking the exit signposted “Schicklerstraße, Stralauer Straße”. Pass under the overground railway bridge which will take you on to the cul-de-sac Schicklerstraße. Schicklerhaus is the large building on your right with flags by the entrance.

If you are travelling with the U2 in the direction of Pankow or Ruhleben, alight at the Klosterstraße station. Take the Stralauer Straße exit and walk straight on for 50 metres until you reach the crossroads. Turn left into Stralauer Straße and follow the street along for approx. 200 metres, heading towards the overhead railway bridge. The large building on your left before the bridge is Schicklerhaus, in front of which there are flagpoles.

By car

If you are coming to the city from the North / North West, take the exit “Abfahrt 114 Berlin-Zentrum/Berlin-Pankow” from the A10. From there, Prenzlauer Allee will take you in the direction of the city centre and Pankow. Stay on Prenzlauer Allee for approx. six kilometres. At the Prenzlauer Allee/Mollstraße crossroads, take a left into Mollstraße and at the next big intersection take a right into Otto-Braun-Straße. Cross over Karl-Marx-Allee and turn left into Alexanderstraße before the Alexa shopping centre (the large red sandstone building). The third intersecting street on the right hand side is the cul-de-sac Schicklerstraße. Turn in here, going as far as the turning area and Schicklerhaus should be straight in front of you.

If you are driving towards the city from the South / South-East, take the exit “Abfahrt 16-Dreieck-Nuthetal” from the A10 or follow the A9 (when coming from Leipzig) into the A115 in the direction of “Berlin-Zentrum/ Berlin-Zehlendorf/ Potsdam-Zentrum”. Take the exit A100 in the direction of the Tempelhof airport (Flughafen Tempelhof) until you get to the Tempelhofer Damm exit. Take a left into Tempelhofer Damm; the former airport Tempelhof should be on your right. After approx. three kilometres turn right (before the canal) into Tempelhofer Ufer (above on your left you should see the overground railway). Continue along this road for approx. a kilometre until you reach Prinzenstraße. Turn left into Prinzenstraße. Go over the roundabout at Moritzplatz, continuing straight ahead along Heinrich-Heine-Straße. Drive over the Spree river at Jannowitzbrücke and at the first crossing, turn left into the Stralauer Straße. Before the overhead railway bridge, turn right once again into Dircksenstraße and then left into the cul-de-sac Schicklerstraße, driving to the end. Schicklerhaus should be straight in front of you.

From Tegel airport

Take the bus “TXL” in the direction of Alexanderplatz and alight at Hauptbahnhof. From here, you can take the “S-Bahn”. Please follow the directions given in By overground commuter train (“S-Bahn”).
