Special Expertise

One focus of my work is product assessment, e.g. through life cycle assessment and life cycle costing (LCC). This is applied, for example, in the development of criteria for eco-labels such as the Blue Angel and for green procurement, the quantification of savings through these instruments and the answering of various questions regarding product and action alternatives. For many years, I have been involved in the evaluation of product lifetimes, in particular the question of whether it is advantageous to replace appliances early on with more efficient new appliances or what the optimal lifespan is.

Another focus of my work is product policy at national and European level, especially EU legislation on ecodesign and energy labelling. My contribution here ranges from participation in preparatory studies, to supporting political actors in the legislative process at European level, to the question of how "circumvention" (evasion of legislation) can be prevented in the future.
