Shaping ecological change - Implementing and updating the Integrated Environmental Programme 2030
The project supports the German Federal Ministry of the Environment in its implementation and update of the “Integrated Environmental Programme” (IUP). In order to do so, the project draws on findings from social science research on transformation and sustainability. It focuses on conditions for success and obstacles to sustainability transformations, including the role of actors in transformations, the use of temporal strategies and the institutionalisation of strategic foresight. Action strategies are developed for promoting sustainability transformations in the focus areas of the IUP (energy, nutrition, mobility, consumption and resources). In addition, experiences from the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) in other countries are evaluated for potential incorporation into a future update of the IUP. Finally, recommendations for monitoring and evaluation procedures of the Integrated Environmental Programme are presented.
The project is led by the Oeko-Institut in collaboration with Adelphi, the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU), the Institute for Innovation and Technology, and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
