Consultancy regarding implementation of a host-rock-independent maximum surface temperature for high-level waste packages under precautionary aspects of final disposal

The Federal Ministry of the Environment is in charge of amending the German safety requirements for the final disposal of heat generating radioactive waste in the light of recommendations given by the German “Endlagerkommission”. Implementation of a host-rock-independent maximum surface temperature of 100 °C for high-level waste packages is one of the aspects to be taken into account. Our consultancy is related to a summary of current scientific knowledge, the relationship to questions regarding retrievability, long term safety and precaution as a principle, as well as procedural aspects related to the German site selection process.
