Ambitious GHG mitigation in the agricultural sector: Analysis of sustainable mitigation potential in selected countries
In this research project, Öko-Institut supported UBA in leading IG AFOLU during the German Council Presidency in 2020, with project staff taking on administrative-logistical tasks around the UNFCCC processes on land use aspects, preparing information and producing background analyses that could then be fed into the EU working groups.
The project also explores options and barriers to mitigating GHG emissions in agriculture. The study focuses on 10 selected countries. For these countries, Öko-Institut, in cooperation with the NewClimate Institute, is investigating how the NDCs of these countries could be made more ambitious through concrete policies, measures and instruments for more climate protection in agriculture, against the background of the respective political context.
The research project has three objectives:
- Supporting UBA in leading IG AFOLU;
- Analyzing options and barriers to mitigating GHG emissions in agriculture and developing recommendations for action to overcome these barriers;
- Identifying options for increased climate mitigation in agriculture for 10 selected countries.
