Download of GEMIS (Program and Database)

Here you find the current GEMIS model and data file for using the model and its database on your PC.
Please set your web browser to save the file to your hard disk.

Please fill out the Registration - this will keep you posted on GEMIS news ! (If you have problems with this form, please send us an email to register) In case you have already registered with us before, you do not need to do this again.

Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems (GEMIS) Version 4.7 (September 2011):

GEMIS  4.7 offers new model options, and database extensions/updates as well. You can find some more details how to install and update your database now.

Setup for GEMIS version 4.7 (September 2011)

Download this file to your hard disk.

Users of Windows 7 should change the attributes of the downloaded file. Open the context menu using the right mouse button and select properties. Press the 'unblock' button.

After that extract all files to an empty directory. You can choose any directory. We recommend c:\Program Files\gemis47\ or My Documents\gemis47\

Start GEMIS by double clicking on Gemis.exe.

Hint for network administrators:

You can copy the extracted files to any network share. Users only need read only access.

For users outside of the USA or the UK, there are also hints for using GEMIS in English mode.

Hints for users of GEMIS in the English mode outside of the USA

We learned from several users in Italy and Swedish that they had problems to run GEMIS not with the German interface but the English one - this is due to the fact that a "non-US-English" Windows - Italian, Swedish etc - version is installed on the PC.

GEMIS detects this when it starts, but has no Italian or Swedish etc. user interface - so it starts in the German version. We will change this in a future release, but for now, there are three options to change this on your side:

1. You can try to set your Windows to "USA" as a country, and start GEMIS again. Now it should be in English.
   
2. Alternatively, you might use the German user interface, and switch to English by yourself:
• To do so, start GEMIS, then click on the Menu option called "Extras", then on the last entry there (called "Sprache").
• A sub-menu appears where you can select the second entry "English".
• Now GEMIS should "vanish" for a few seconds, and re-appear in the English mode.
3. This option works only with the updated GEMIS 4 version - it also includes an updated English Help, so make sure you get it:
• Download GEMIS Version 4 which is on our server now, de-install the previous version on your PC, and then install the new one.
• Next, download the file gemis-eng.reg on your PC, and double-click on it - then answer the question if the registry should be adjusted with "Yes".
• Now start GEMIS 4, and it should be in English (Help etc. as well).

Also note that there are two levels of the language settings - one is the setting of the program (you've dealt with now), and another one is the language setting for the data record names, and comments.

To switch those into English mode also, proceed as follows:

• Start GEMIS, open Menu Extras, click on "Settings", and then on the tab "user interface".
• There, the upper checkbox is for the language of the database - select "English",

All records and comments will now be shown in English also  - as far as there are English names/comments (some of the records are still monolingual).
