Update 4.5:
Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems (GEMIS) Version 4.5The new version is now ready for download - we have updated Version 4.5 and corrected some data. Please see our information and tips under setup
GEMIS 4.5 offers new model options,
and database extensions, so that a new version was created.
Due to
these extensions and corrections, the new data cannot be used in
earlier GEMIS versions.
Therefore, we urge all users to use GEMIS
4.5 for any future application.
Existing data from own applications
can be added to the database using menu option File\Append project.
Modelling:
- The model can now be
switched to specific allocation modes (e.g., energy-based for biofuels)
- In transport processes, the modes (city, rural, highway) are now
integrated into one record
Database extensions/updates:
- update of the fossil upstream data for most countries (esp. GHG emissions)
- new data for energy processes in Germany for year 2005
- complete data from the WBGU study "GHG Emissions of Biomass Pathways"
data from the IWO study "Primary Energy Balances of Biogenic Oils"
- complete data from the BMU project "Environmentally Optimized Biogas"
For GEMIS Tours - V 4.3. also - see under download
The manual for GEMIS 4.3 is now available (PDF file 671 kB)
The brochure
for GEMIS 4.07 (incl. CDROM) is now available (in German only)
at no cost from

In 2002-2004, the GEMIS database will be massively expanded with respect to biomass technologies, and agricultural/food processes. Also, the model will be developed further. More details are given on the website http://www.oeko.de/service/bio/ (in German). We will tell more in English in one of the next web updates...
Update 4.3.:
Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems (GEMIS) Version 4.3GEMIS 4.3 offers new model options, and database extensions/updates as well, so that a new version was created. Due to this extensions and corrections, we urge all users to use GEMIS 4.3 for any future application. Existing data from own applications can be added to the database using the append project option.
Corrected Model Bugs
Soft- and Hardware Requirements
(For more information on bugs, database extensions etc. please check the GEMIS website)
update 4.2:
Global Emission Model for Integrated Systems (GEMIS) Version 4.2 - October 2004 - offers new model options, and database extensions/updates as well.
What's new in GEMIS 4.2
User interface:
- the location (country) and time reference is shown now as icons in process lists
- the review status is shown in a color coding for icons in list windows
- now support for Windows XP style icons.
- the buttons were re-arranged
- language version in Czech is available
Model features:
- new calculation for employment effects (for far, data only for bioenergy and selected fossil processes).
- data records now offer new meta data for review and technology status, and time reference, which can be used as filters
- the aggregated indicator for primary energy is now changed to cumulative energy consumption (CEC)
- the cumulative energy requirement (CER) is still calculated upon request
- editing couple products and crediting (e.g., for cogeneration) was made easier and clearer
- new reference type "projects" included to group data records from a (research) project or GEMIS application
Database updates/extensions:
- more than 1,500 new processes for bioenergy (see www.oeko.de/service/bio for details)
- updated upstream data for oil products (especially: refineries)
- energy data for selected countries now include scenario data for 2020, and 2030 (Germany only)
- the data for the Czech Republic was updated
- new scenarios for bioenergy, goods (per-capita-consumption now also for food)...
Setup for GEMIS version 4.13 (May 2002) setup.exe with 6 MB
The update to GEMIS version 4.13 (May 2002) is available - this version extends the database, and offers some new features.
The GEMIS database is updated and available as a pre-release for the full GEMIS 4.14 setup (coming October 2002) - download the ZIP file (1,370 kB), extract all files, and copy them to the GEMIS data directory on your PC. We recommend to update any existing GEMIS data with this database version (see: How to update your database)
The updated results from GEMIS 4.14 (September 2002) are available in an Excel spreadsheet
We are currently preparing English versions of the "Tours" (guided help texts) - for anyone interested, here are the preliminary versions for which we'd like to get your comments !
- GEMIS versions 4.05/06 - in this versions, a small error in the result screen of the "direct computation" of air emissions from processes has been corrected, and a problem with the keyboard language switching under Windows 2000 was solved. Furthermore, transport links are now shown in the fuel-cycle graphics using a green icon.
- Some users had problems with the download of the GEMIS Setup (MSI file) - therefore, we have changed back to the EXE version (see download).
- The response to our user questionnaire was quite good - most responses were positive regarding the web-based user directory, so we will prepare it this summer. More information on your feedback will be made available here soon.
- Important: Some virus scanner software (e.g. McAfee) reports that the file G4Database.dll is infected with a virus ("trojan horse") - this is not true ! We are in contact with McAfee to correct this - until then, please choose the option "exclude" when your virus scanner reports a possible infection of the file "G4Database.dll".
- Hints for users outside of the USA who had problems to run GEMIS in English mode
- GEMIS-4.0 Austria is available - this special database version has its own (German) website with many materials
