Sustainable Mobility

Traffic volumes, particularly in road transport, are continuing to rise, as are the associated adverse environmental effects. In this situation, the fundamental question arises of how the transport sector can do justice to the objectives of sustainable mobility and sustainable energy policy. The Division crafts strategies revolving around a broad range of themes:

What contributions can efficiently configured conventional, but also alternative drives and fuels in the transport sector make to mitigating climate change and reducing emissions? What influence do specific policy measures have upon changes in transport service provision and demand? Which innovations can make freight transport more efficient in both economic and environmental terms? What opportunities do companies have to shape their logistics chains more efficiently? How to improve the environmental performance of leisure and tourism transport, and of travel associated with large-scale sports events such as the 2006 Football World Cup? How to minimize the impacts of aviation upon people living near airports and the environment in general?
