Emission and Ambient Pollution Control, Radiation Protection

Our work on ambient pollution control and radiation protection is concerned above all with the impacts of airborne pollutants and both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

We study the radio-ecological effects of the release of radioactive substances to the environment, both in normal operations and as a result of events and accidents. We study and assess the effects of airborne pollutants, but also of noise and light, especially in connection with environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedures.

We have gathered a wealth of methodological competence in radio-ecological modelling, conventional pollutant dispersal, environmental impact assessment and the development of standards, codes and regulations. Further methodological expertise has been built in risk assessment and communication, in reconciling disparate stakeholder interests, and in shaping governance and participation processes.
